Jacopo Mattaini, PT, DPT, SCS, is an experienced and internationally trained sports physical therapist with a strong background in orthopaedic rehabilitation, high-performance sport, and return-to-play decision-making. Born and raised in Italy and professionally developed across Europe and the United States, he combines a global perspective with advanced clinical expertise to deliver evidence-based, athlete-centered care.

Dr. Mattaini currently serves as a Clinical Specialist at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City; his clinical practice focuses on the rehabilitation of both general and athletic populations, ranging from non-operative conditions to complex post-surgical cases. He is deeply involved in return-to-play testing, injury risk mitigation, and biomechanical analysis, utilizing advanced technologies such as force plates, isokinetic dynamometry, motion capture systems, and blood flow restriction training. His treatment approach integrates therapeutic exercise, neuromotor and neurocognitive strategies, manual therapy, and high-velocity low-amplitude manipulation, all grounded in evidence-based practice.

In parallel with his clinical role, Dr. Mattaini has extensive experience working within elite sports environments. He has been part of the medical and performance staff for the New York Liberty (WNBA) and previously for a pro tennis player in the WTA circuit (including Master 1000 and Grand Slam tournaments). His responsibilities have included on-court care, manual therapy, load monitoring, and collaboration with coaches, physicians, and strength and conditioning professionals. Currently, he is part of U.S. Ski and Snowboard medical pool.

Prior to his work in the United States, Dr. Mattaini spent several years at Isokinetic Medical Group, a FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence, in both Italy and the United Kingdom. There, he worked with athletes across multiple disciplines including football, rugby, tennis, basketball, winter sports, and dance.

Dr. Mattaini holds a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Nova Southeastern University and a Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Milan. He is a Board-Certified Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS) and has pursued advanced training in spinal manipulation, dry needling, blood flow restriction therapy, and sports-specific rehabilitation. He also holds a Performance Leadership Certificate from Cornell University, reflecting his commitment to leadership, communication, and team dynamics in high-performance environments.

Beyond clinical practice, he is actively involved in education and knowledge dissemination. He has contributed to academic publications, serves as a lecturer for professional and academic audiences, and participates in international conferences on sports rehabilitation and return-to-sport strategies. His interests in data-informed practice and athlete monitoring continue to shape his approach to modern rehabilitation.

Fluent in Italian and English, with working knowledge of French, Dr. Mattaini brings strong communication skills, cultural adaptability, and a collaborative mindset to every professional setting. His career reflects a commitment to excellence in patient care, continuous learning, and the advancement of sports physical therapy practice.
